It is that time of year for the Buzz Book Cover Design Contest. The deadline has been extended to Friday, September 10th. Students get your creative minds buzzing to draw the greatest design ever. The winner will receive a $25.00 gift card.

We are happy to announce a partnership with the Catholic High Schools in St. Louis City and County and the Catholic Elementary Schools in the City of St. Louis. This collaboration is offering a High School Algebra I Honors Program. Bishop DuBourg offered this program about 10 years ago and we had a number of students attend. Unfortunately, the program ended. However, the program that is being offered now is stronger and better than before. The curriculum for this honors course was developed and accepted by the partner high schools. The goal is for each student to successfully complete a full credit of high school Algebra I and to advance to the next level of math as a high school freshman.
Students are recommended by their math teacher based on class work, class participation and standardized test scores. The criterion for the program accepted by the high schools is that an entrance test was offered for the students to take. Only the students with the best scores on the entrance test were selected into the honors program.
In 2010-2011, the course will be taught by a certified math teacher from Bishop DuBourg High School. In future years, the course will be taught by a teacher from one of the partner high schools. The teacher will maintain communication with the elementary school math teachers throughout the school year.
There were 15 students from St. Gabriel the Archangel School that were recommended for the program. Eight of our students qualified. There are seven Catholic elementary schools from St. Louis City that are participating. The class size is limited to 25 students.
This Algebra 1 Honors Program is one of many successful activities that are being sponsored by the South City Catholic Collbaorative.
